The MCA program centers on providing a sound theoretical background as well as good practical exposure to students in the relevant areas. It is intended to provide a modern industry based education in applied computer science. It aims at creating educated professionals who can successfully convene the demands of the information technology industry. Pune is today rapidly emerging as an info tech hub, challenging giants like Bangalore and Mumbai. Pune homes to many of the world renowned giants of the Indian software industry like Wipro, Infosys, Satyam, Tata Technologies, TCS, Kanbay, Veritas, Cognizant, PCS and Mahindra British Telecom. Another feather in the cap is the ‘Indian Institute of Software Engineering’ approaching in alliance with Carnegie Mellon University, USA.

In the more established colleges, there is a tough competition for selection, and only those with a good academic record, coupled with a strong aptitude for computers, makes it. To meet the increasing demand of trained manpower in the field of computer applications, various universities in Pune have decided to launch 3 years post graduate MCA Programme. Course: MCA is a three year i.e. six semesters course approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The selection is based on performance in the qualifying exam, written test and personal interview. It is a very practical program with 26 instructional courses and 14 practical ones each of 4 hours per week, spread over the first five semesters, and seminars and project work in the fifth and final semesters. During the sixth semester, students generally go to the industries and apply a real time project which is directly useful to the organization concerned. It should be kept in mind that it is going to be a rigorous three years of exhaustive theory and practical work, thus even before appearing for the entrance test, one should have had enough experience of computers, and a self-reliance that one can go deeper into the subject with ease.

Eligibility Requirements.

Basic Qualification: In order to secure admission to first year of MCA course, the candidate should fulfill the following eligibility criteria; Candidate should be Indian national and should have passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of backward class category candidates belonging to Maharashtra state only) in any Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied mathematics or statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination. Candidates who have appeared for the final year examination of any Bachelor’s degree of minimum three years duration in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and having studied mathematics or statistics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or higher level examination can also appear for Maharastra – MCA -CET 2007 but will have to complete the basic qualification as mentioned above i.e. passed with minimum of 45% marks in aggregate. (40% in case of backward class candidates from Maharashtra state only).
