Pune with a population of 2.5 million is the second largest city after Mumbai in the Maharashtra. Since ancient times, Pune has been a famous educational and cultural centre. The Maratha state was founded by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj around Pune in 1676 A.D. The weather of Pune is very pleasant with maximum temperature ranging from 32 degree to 42 degree Centigrade. The city is well connected to other metropolises of the country by road, rail and air.
Sports Institutes operate different courses with following objects written below: To develop the overall personality of students, to develop physical fitness, to develop healthy mind through sportsman spirit, to develop team work and leadership quality and to identify / nurture budding sports talent. Cricket is the most popular sport in Pune, watched and played by many people. City clubs affiliated with Maharashtra Cricket Association have their own leagues and tournaments. Badminton is also fairly popular among Puneites. The first rules of the game were written in Pune by the British in 1873 and were not different to those in the modern description of the game. Thus Pune is known as the birthplace of Badminton. Rowing fans, such as members of the Royal Connaught Boat Club take to the Mula-Mutha River. The Nehru Stadium, home of the Maharashtra Cricket Association, has hosted several One Day International cricket matches, including one from the 1996 World Cup. The Deccan Gymkhana is another sporting institution with facilities for cricket, several tennis courts, basketball and swimming, having hosted Davis Cup matches on several occasions.
From the Isshinryu Karate & Kobudo Association of India until now 21 students who have been personally trained by Sensei Salil and Sensei Sharmila have participated in various world as well as international championships and have won 42 trophies and medals making the organization and the country proud. Army Sports Institute: To restore national pride in the hearts of our fellow countrymen and to plan a winning image of the Army, the Government has approved the instigation of an Army Sports Institute (ASI) at Pune and Army Sports Nodes in selected disciplines at different places in the country. Appropriate funds have been allocated for state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment coupled with food habitat, foreign exposure and training under foreign coaches.
