Gokhale Institute Of Politics And Economics
The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics is one of the most renowned institutes for economics teaching and research in the country. Since its establishment in the year 1940, it has been regarded as one of the premier institutes, devoted to advanced research in this field. Despite its status, chiefly, as an institute for research, the University of Bombay has provided its MA and PhD courses with due recognition, from the very day of its establishment.
The Gokhale Institute has been an essential element of the University of Pune since it came into being in the year 1949. The GIPE was chosen by the UGC or the University Grants Commission as a Centre for Advanced Study in Economics after its significant contribution to research in Agricultural Economics was recognised. The GIPE is situated in the premises of the Servants of India Society, which was set up in the year 1905 by the great Indian nationalist leader Gopal Krishna Gokhale.
The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics has been declared by the Government of India as ‘Deemed to be a University’, taking into consideration its current professional success and bright future.
