GIPE Courses Offered

The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) in Pune was established in the year 1930. The Institute was accorded the status of a deemed university in 1993. National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited with A+ Grade.

GIPE Courses

1. M.A

The MA course at Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics is a two year program that comprises of four semesters. There are six compulsory subjects and twelve optional subjects. Students from diverse academic backgrounds can select this course.

Selection: Students will be chosen according to the marks they have secured in the entrance examination on subjects like analytical ability, knowledge in basics of economics, knowledge of statistics and mathematics.


Eligibility: Students wishing to appear for the examination must have a minimum of 50% marks in their graduation. The eligibility for SC/ST students is 45%.

2. PhD

Students can attain a PhD in Economics, Population studies and Sociology.

Eligibility: Students need to have secured 55% marks in their Master's degree to be eligible to apply for this course. Admission to the Ph.D. programme of the Institute will be through an Entrance Examination conducted two times in a year (January and July) at the Institute. However, candidates qualified for UGC (JRF) Examination need not appear for the Entrance Examination. The candidates qualified through an Entrance Examination marks will be called for the interview to present/discuss their research proposal/area/interest.
