Vocational Colleges
Vocational education known as career and technical education plans to train people for careers that are based on physical or realistic activities. Conventionally it is non academic and totally related to a precise trade, occupation or vocation, therefore the term, in which the learner participates is related to a particular job. It is often termed as technical education, as the student develops knowledge in a particular technology or group of technology. Vocational education has enlarged over the 20th century and now lives in industries such as retail, tourism, information technology ,cosmetics and as well as in the traditional crafts and cottage industries.
Vocational training in India is offered on a full time as well as part time basis. Full time programs are generally offered through Industrial Training Institutes. Part time programs are offered through state technical education boards or universities which also offer full time courses. Vocational training has been successful in India only in industrial training institutes and that also in engineering trades. India is a pioneer in vocational training in Film and Television and Information Technology.
The course in Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) is designed to teach basic skills in the trade specified. Most of ITI’s provide training in technical trades like electricians, fitter, plumber, operator and craftsman.
