Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth

Updated on: Jan 31, 2013

The Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth was established to pay respect to one of India’s greatest freedom fighters and social reformers in the year 1921. As per historical evidences, the national institute was set up on the recommendation of Mahatma Gandhi during the Indian National Congress’s Nagpur session in 1920. Today, the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth has transformed from registered society under the Societies Act of 1960 to a Deemed University. The esteemed institute has also been included in the University Grants Commission Act (UGC).

The Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth realizes its responsibilities towards the society and makes every effort to spread education amongst the youth in the disciplines of Humanities, Science and Commerce. With funds from the University Grants Commission, the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth has earned a prominent stature for itself in the Association of the Indian Universities.

Students, teachers and visitors have been deriving great knowledge from the impressive assortment of books, journals, periodicals and historical manuscripts that are part of the institute’s library.

The Mukta Vidya Kendra or the Open Education Center of the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth makes provision for Distance Education.
